If you are coming from the town of Salzburg, it is best to drive via Bad Reichenhall (D). Then continue via the Steinpass passing Unken, southbound to Lofer – Saalfelden – Maishofen. In Maishofen you leave the B311 and turn west to enter the Obere Saalachtal Valley (Glemmtal valley). The Alpenhotel is at the centre of Saalbach.
... from Munich - Zurich
If you are coming from Germany or Switzerland, drive via Munich and exit the motorway (A8/E60) Munich – Salzburg at Siegsdorf. Continue via Inzell and take the German Alpine Road towards Austria. Next, continue in a southbound direction via the Steinpass passing Unken and continuing through Lofer – Saalfelden – Maishofen. In Maishofen you leave the B311 and turn west to enter the Obere Saalachtal valley (Glemmtal valley). The Alpenhotel is at the centre of Saalbach.
... from Graz - Klagenfurt
If you are coming from Styria or Carinthia, one of the stages of your journey will be the town of Bischofshofen, well-known because of the Four Hills Tournament that is held there. You leave the Tauern motorway here (A10) towards Zell am See. You circumnavigate the mountain town of Zell am See by driving through the Schmitten-Tunnel until you get to Maishofen. In Maishofen you leave the B311 and turn west to enter the Obere Saalachtal valley (Glemmtal valley). The Alpenhotel is at the centre of Saalbach.

If you are coming from Tyrol, it is best to drive via Wörgl – St. Johann in Tyrol - Fieberbrunn - Saalfelden – Maishofen. In Maishofen you leave the B311 and turn west to enter the Obere Saalachtal valley (Glemmtal valley). The Alpenhotel is at the centre of Saalbach.
... from Lienz - Bruneck
If you are coming from East Tyrol, you will reach the Pinzgau region via the Felbertauern-Tunnel. In Mittersill you exit the B108 towards Zell am See. You circumnavigate the mountain town of Zell am See by driving through the Schmitten-Tunnel until you get to Maishofen. In Maishofen you leave the B311 and turn west to enter the Obere Saalachtal valley (Glemmtal valley). The Alpenhotel is at the centre of Saalbach.
Arriving by train

Please note that Saalbach has no station of its own; you therefore have to alight at stations in Zell am See (arrivals from the east/south/north-east) or Saalfelden (west/north-west).
